The kids are headed back to public school very soon, our fall curriculum home school is under way, the garden is in full production, the canners and dehydrators are working overtime and the pantry is filling up. WOW no wonder I’m tired.

Homemade sugar scrubs not only make great gifts for all occasions, but a sugar scrub is one of the best ways to achieve healthy glowing skin, they soften your skin, exfoliating (sugar), moisturize it (oils) and add beneficial herbs for health.
I just love natural homemade sugar scrubs in the fall and winter when my skin starts looking dull, dry and tired. If you are a sugar scrub lover like me you will enjoy our Fall inspired Apple & Brown Sugar homemade sugar scrub recipe. If your new to sugar scrubs, trust me— you are going to love them!
A quick note for all our herbal recipes: Start with clean freshly washed hands, bowls, work surface, measuring cups and spoons. Because these are homemade and natural bath and beauty recipes they don’t contain any preservatives- or very little, you want your recipes to start without bacteria. Kept in the refrigerator they will last for up to 2 weeks. Keep extra water out of them as water encourages bacterial growth.
Apple & Brown Sugar Facial Scrub
Because this is for your face it doesn’t include salt. For me salt is to harsh for my face, but I love it for a body and foot scrub. If you want to use it for your body, consider swapping out some of the brown sugar for fine salts or raw sugar and enjoy.
- 2 ¼ cups organic light brown sugar
- ½ cup sunflower oil
- ½ cup fractionated coconut oil (this is the liquid form)
- 2 Tbl. raw Shea butter
- ½ tsp. finely ground organic cinnamon
- ½ tsp. finely ground organic nutmeg
- 2 capsules (1 tsp.) vitamin E oil
In a medium microwave safe bowl warm the Shea, coconut and sunflower oils. Use 10 second intervals stirring in between until the Shea butter is just melted. You don’t want to get it to hot or it will become crystalized. Carefully remove from microwave and stir in the vitamin E, set aside for a bit you will need it very soon.
In a second larger bowl combine the organic sugar & spices. (Using my hands works for me.) Stir the melted oils well one more time and slowly drizzle over your salt & sugar mixture to incorporate it well.
Pour into a sealed container. Will keep 6 weeks
